Since most people are taking this day as a holiday, I have taken some time to update my DNR program and City of Carroll data. Not real exciting, but it is a task that must get done at some point.

Real World Externships for Teachers

My name is Robin Harrington, and I am a math teacher at Kuemper Catholic High school in Carroll, IA. This summer I am participating in the summer externship program through IMSEP. I will be working at the state level of DNR and at the local park level of DNR with a new pilot project.

The goal of the IMSEP program is to give teachers an opportunity to enhance their teaching skills by allowing them to work in jobs related to their teaching field. This opportunity will also allow the teacher to better enhance the 21st century skills of students. These skill will be needed for 21st century jobs.

The Externship Program through IMSEP and the three state Regents Universities is based strongly on the Iowa Core Curriculum which will be implemented into Iowa schools in the next several years. This curriculum holds teachers accountable for content standards and also a set of 21st century skills each student should have as well.
